Description
Listed here is a marvelous quality flax canvas razor strop which I made NEW by re-purposing un-used NOS new-old-stock 1974 vintage unlined flax linen fire hose and new high-end heavy duty black latigo leather caps with top quality chromed brass hardware. It is Extra Long with 21.5 to 22 inches of useable stropping length at 2 1/2" in width. To elevate the quality of these strops I acquired hardware and end caps from the master strop-maker, Anthony Miller, from the Heirloom Strop Company. It is held together with Chicago screws. The cut ends of the hose are treated with super glue to keep them from fraying. The hardware includes a heavy-duty swivel clasp with a ring to hang the strop on a hook and a large d-ring on the other end to hold taut while in use. this strop is built to last a very long time, and these linen strops just keep getting better with use.I use linen firehose strops every time I prepare a straight razor for use before stropping on leather. I also occasionally use a linen strop in the process of honing a razor which has microchips or a burred edge to smooth it out before continuing to the next stone. In my experience, this linen hose is soft but tough and only gets better and better as years go by. It may shed some fiber the first few times used, which is natural.
The hose used for these strops was never used as a hose and this hose was exceptionally bright and well preserved as it spent the majority of its prior life in a box. Prior to assembly, the hose was washed, rinsed, dried, then meticulously broken-in and hand-softened. There may be light age-staining/discoloration visible on some of these strops. I include a couple of pictures of multiple strops to show their variation, including possible manufacturer's printing on a couple of them. This listing is for one strop only. If you would prefer a strop with printing, include a message with your purchase and I will try to accommodate your request if available.
