Description
The Admiral Graf Spee was a pocket battleship armed with heavy 28 cm guns. The Graf Spee fought in the Spanish Civil War and was the flagship of the German fleet until 1938. Under the command of Kapitän-zur-See Hans Wilhelm Langsdorff, the ship sank nine British merchant ships in the South Atlantic and the Indian Ocean in 1939 with a total of 50,000 register tons. After the naval battle at the Río de la Plata, the Graf Spee was damaged and was sunk by the Germans themselves. Captain Langsdorff committed suicide. The German crew was put ashore in Buenos Aires and interned on the island of MARTIN GARCIA, among other places. They were given furlough passes which they had to sign. Offered here is one from Petty Officer Prüssner Fritz (1st Division Graf Spee) of 1942 stamped with the ship's seal KRIEGSMARINE KOMMANDO PANZERSCHIFF ADMIRAL GRAF SPEE and one from Seaman Ehrlich Gustav (9th Division Graf Spee) from 1943. ADAM is the hotel where he had to stay during their leave. Many descendants still live in Argentina and annually commemorate the sinking of the ship and the deceased crew members at the cemetery in Buenos Aires.Free regular shipping - lifetime guarantee on originality
